I have a question!!! what specific kind of corset style would you recomend for someone who wants to start tightlacing, and how much of a reduction would be appropriate to start with?

for a lady of "average" build - the quick 'n dirty answer is: An underbust hourglass, 3 to 4 inches less than your natural waist. If you'd like a more comprehensive and personalised reply, please contact me privately.

Someone asked me a question recently.
Are there any neutral medical commentaries/articles/assesments about tightlacing available?
By that I mean - published by someone who is not promoting corsetting and so doesn't have any reason to ignore or hide any possible negative aspects.

Hi Roger,

Indeed this is a very interesting question? I am sure there must be done research in the past, but where can we find that?

Now that the weather is heading towards cooler days (in the northern hemisphere) it's a good time for those who have seriously considered corset training to make a start. If you'd like confidential, individual coaching and advice please contact me.

Roger,

Do you fine that more men are wearing corsets, straight average guys who like the support around the back or waist; I did have back problems up until I started wearing a corset, now it’s time for a new one.

Hi Richard

As I see it there are three basic "categories" of men who wear corsets. In descending order of prevalence they are:

1. Orthopeadic or medical wearers (such as yourself).
2. Men who wish to appear female.
3. Men who wear corsets for fashion without looking female.

I believe the 3rd category are extremely rare.

There's also the 4th category, the men that like to wear nice corsets and don't care if it makes them look female or not.

I actually ran a poll on my blog a few months ago asking men to answer the question "Why do you wear a corset?"  With the large caveat that these are obviously not scientifically rigorous numbers (lots of selection effects, etc.), I did find the results of the poll interesting.

You can see the results here:

http://malecorsetry.blogspot.com/2007/08/results-of-poll.h…

Given that my blog is not focused on cross dressing, the percentage of men who wear corsets to crossdress is surely understated (those who wear a corset to crossdress probably don't read my blog).  Still, the massive percentage of men who wear a corset for physical stimulation was surprising.

Hi,
I am an 18 year old girl with a love for corsets.I make them and I wear them every day for 3 and 1/2 years.I put it on when I wake up and I take it of when I go to sleep.I still live with my parents so I'm not a 23/7 tightlacer but that is my goal. For now I reduce my waist for 10 cm with no problem, after a few hours I usually lace myself for another 2-3cm but compared to real tightlacers it sounds like nothing.I don't want to reduce my waist to a size of nothing but I think a few more cms would be nice,no? I was wondering would a nice cotton underbust corset be good for sleeping in it?I tried to sleep in my overbust but my boobs run wild...

Hello Aranea

I'm pleased to read that you are enjoying your corsets.
A "nice cotton underbust" - that fits well - would be perfect for sleeping.
Overbust corsets are often problematic particularly for ladies who have more than a little handfull!
It is good that you are taking your corsetting easy - at your age your lower ribs are not yet fully calcified so you must take care to be gentle with them - you will be using them for a long time.
Before a young lady begins tightlacing she must be absolutely certain that she is no longer growing.
KEEP TIGHT!!!
