Subject: I just got my corset, and I need help!
I finally got a custom corset last month, but I'm having trouble wearing it.  I've tried sleeping in it, but after about six hours or so, I wake up because of termendous pain in my lower back! At that point, I have to give up and take it off so I can finish sleeping. I don't know what I can do to prevent the pain in my back so I can wear my corset during the night to continue waist training. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried wearing it all day?
Is the corset evenly closed?
Do you normally sleep on your front, your side, or your back?

I haven't worn it all day yet, but I had worn it for about 8 hours when I tried sleeping in it.  The gap in the back is smaller around the hips.  When I sleep I normally start out on my stomach, but toss and turn all over the place over the course of the night, lol.

To repeat in more detail what I answered you in your introduction, go slow. When I started two years ago, I set a goal of four hours each evening, but didn't sleep in it yet. The first couple of weeks were murder, but I persevered. When I could easily breeze through four hours, I went for an extra hour, and evaluated my condition. If I was up to it, I went another hour. I never exceeded my capacity to endure it, and when it got painful, I took it off. I tightened it when I felt comfortable with a given size for at least several days, to make sure it was not a temporary comfort.

After six weeks or so, I could sleep in it overnight. The best position for sleeping, I found after much experimentation, was with some pillows propping me up, or in a reclining chair. For you, it may be different, you will have to experiment. Try short naps in any given position, and note how you feel. I have also found that shifting positions regularly helps too, if more than one position is comfortable.

You have to let your body adapt to the new shape that the corset imposes. If it hurts, it's usually because of "too much, too fast". There is no shame in loosening up a bit, take a step backward, so the next step becomes easier. If you go slow, you will be surprised at how adaptable the human body is.

Also, watch what you eat. Some foods will cause bloating, which will make the corset very uncomfortable some time after a meal. I also avoid gassy foods as much as possible. Also, foods that tend to constipate (chocolate is one, alas!) can contribute to creating pressure on the spine (it's my case - I found out after several years that my periodic debilitating backaches were caused by loaded intestines pressing a nerve, and since I have been tightlacing, and the diet changes I had to make, I no longer have any of those backaches).

Hope this helps.

Okay, I'll try to slow down a bit, and I'll evaluate my diet.  Shame about chocolate though!!! Anyways, thanks so much for your advice!
