Subject: uneven lacing of a corset?
I was always told to lace a corset in such a fashion that it is laced evenly between the two lacing bones.  I have found b/c I have a small tummy that when laced evenly that the top of corset fits perfectly and even the middle of the corset fits perfectly that the bottom little bit doesn't hug my body.  If I lace a bit tighter on the bottom laces then it hugs better.

Is it detrimental to lace the corset a bit unevenly?  I would hate to put unnecessary pressure on my corset and somehow damage it....

Suggestions?

It would be detrimental in the longer term, because of the uneven tension on the lacing bones.

What you describe (correct me if I'm wrong) is that the corset is loose over the hips when it is snug over the chest and waist. This is due to one of two possibilities:

1) The corset is not exactly made to your size. If you want to remain at one particular size, this may be the case. You may want to have it altered in this situation.

2) You haven't worn it long enough for your chest and waist to adapt (shrink) to the corset. To illustrate, in my case when I switch to a tighter corset in my ongoing waist training, the hips are usually loose relative to the upper part, because my hips don't shrink, or at least don't shrink as much as my chest and waist. Later, after I have worn the corset for a certain time, and gradually tightened over that time, then it is snug from top to bottom with the laces even. In these circumstances, I accept a little bit of unevenness because it will not last very long (a month or two at the most). Even if the lacing bones distort, I can replace them easily since I make my own corsets.

The instructions that come with my corset say to
"Lace first from bottom to waist, then top to waist several times, using the the waist pulls to take up slack."

and also to "keep the back gap parallel top to bottom to avoid bones turning in casings".

By starting the lace procedure at the bottom, you may be able to reposition your tummy enough that even lacing is possible.

Hi,

Is your corset custom made or off the rack?

If it is custom made I would say either the corset is new and not yet broken in and it will take a few more times of wearing to shape it. Also try to lace it like Andy writes if you are only  pulling from the waist now. I know it exist both videos and information they only pull the laces in the waist and this is not the correct way you need to work the laces from bottom to waist and from top to waist several times.
If your corset is custom made and broken in and you lace correct it is not correctly made for you I would say it should be even.

If your corset is an off the rack this is the most common problem they either gap at the top or bottom they seldom is evenly laced and not much to do about it except maybe try another corsetmaker/design or of course the best option a custom made corset.

Subject: uneven spacing between lacing bones
well this morning my g/f didn't lace me in and I did it myself using a doorknow.  It turns out that the lacing bones are pretty close to being even with perhaps a slight alignment issue near th emiddle.  Overall the corset fits me quite well and yes it is a custom made piece and it does fit very well.  I think b/c I had a larger than normal tummyfor the past few weeks my corset hasn't been fitting as good.

I found out this morning after  fully lacing myself in that my corset is essentially laced closed!  No strain and it was very comfy to wear all day.

I'll see again tomorrow to see if I can easily duplicate the perfect fit again.  I don't see how I can't but I've had days where my corset just didn't seem to quite fit right.

I'll keep you everyone posted.
