Subject: how tight can a corset be tightened before it breaks?
I was always curious as to how much pressure can a busk and lacing bone take before it snaps or breaks from the extreme pressures of corseting?

My corsets have all been custom made by a talented corsetier and they are well made.  I wouldn't say that I tightlace but only lace moderately and just enough to make the corset snug + a little tighter.  My concern with my corsets getting ruined is when I either eat a bit too much or when I'm getting in and out of my car.  The bending of my torso to get into the vehicle coupled with a full stomach makes bending over EXTREMELY difficult.  I get into my car and I can almost feel the intense pressure of the corset against my ribs.  I exercise caution of course but in the back of my mind I'm always wondering if it would ever break.

Its been 3 months of daily wear and nothing appears to be broken/bent/worn yet.

Thanks

If it is a well-constructed corset made of quality materials, there should be no risk of failure.

Eating too much will only make you more or less uncomfortable, and the corset will come out of it unscathed. In any case, a tight corset should discourage you from eating too much in one sitting. It is preferable to eat in small amounts spread out over time.

I know how it is getting into and out of a car! It took some experimenting before I got a good technique. I avoid bending the torso, and bend at the hips instead. I support myself on the top of the door with my left hand (use opposite hands/legs if you are somewhere with right-hand drive), put my right leg in first, ease myself down gently, and if I am not centered in the seat right away, I slide over by lifting myself a little, then pull in the left leg. Mind your head! I banged mine a few times before I learned my lesson!
