Subject: Can anyone help me?
Hello, I'm an A level textiles student and as part of my course I have to do a product study and as is probably obvious since I'm posting here I'm doing mine on corsets. ;) I was wondering if any kind people could take me through the manufacturing process and tell me what materials and components are generally used, and which ones you prefer and why? Any links to other info/pictures would be very much appreciated too :)

Thanks in advance :D

In a nutshell:

Usually a *good* modern corset is made out of coutil as a strength layer, has an optional outer shell of fashion fabric and is usually boned with spring steel and/or spiral steel boning. Two part grommets are usually used for the lacing holes at the back. It usually has a splitting busk made out of steel at the front. The cut of the panels and the way the boning is inserted depends on the style of the corset, there are many options there. The top and bottom are often bound with bias tape and most good corsets also have a grosgrain ribbon sewn in at the waistline for extra strength.

You probably should have a look at http://community.livejournal.com/corsetmakers/profile as a starting point for further research. Lots of information there.
