Subject: Intro from Crystal
Hello
I am new here of course and we are interested in corsetting.  We have made three corsets so far all mid-bust but now we are looking at making one with shoulder straps to adjust the posture and help with training.

I am a member of a couple of Yahoo Groups and that has been helpful but I think this private forum is much better.

I will post some pictures when I know how.

Both my husband and I have an interest in corsetting.  It will be nice to develop along with your ideas and suggestions.  Not too much waist reduction too soon but overall training and restriction is best.

I like the feeling of tightness and hugging.

Thank you

Crystal
(I first posted this in reply to the first thread - I am very sorry I made that mistake - So it is repeated here)

Welcome! Hope you both enjoy your time here with us. It would be nice to hear from your husband too - we have a section here for corset makers that he might find useful. This forum is not at all as busy as many of the Yahoo Groups but we like to believe that our content is generally of a much higher quality. We have zero tollerance for trolls or spammers. Take a look around the various sections here - you'll soon find the topics you are most intertested in.

Your avatar photo looks good - the matching jacket and collar is interesting.

Hi

Thank you for the welcome.

Corsetting is a wide subject and we will both stay in touch with your forum.

It is a friendly forum and active which is more than can be said for some.

I am going to progress to a corset with shoulder straps now so that I can get the benefit of better breathing by pulling back the shoulders and tightening the waist a little more.  Ido like the hugging feeling so it will be nice to increase the time in it each day.

Currently Rigilene is used for boning.  It is a poly-bone.  It might be better to start with steel inserts for the next corset.  If anybody has experience of the difference please let us know.

As for males with corsets they are not really seen much but we do like the idea of making a vest/waistcoat with special boning and strapping him into that one day!

Thank you again.

Plastic boning was invented by the Devil!
Its an evil substance used to lead innocent corset lovers into sin.
Repent!
Renounce Rigilene!
Come into the light!
Discover truth and beauty!
Steel will set you free!

So how do I rate as a preacher? LOL!!!  :-p

OK I am converted.

On my next corset we will use steel.  The stiffer the better I guess.

It was fun to read your message.  Thank you for taking the time to reply and to guide me.

Hi,

Take a look at this place for lots of information about corsetmaking.

And do I dare to say this but I think if a corset has plastic it is not really a corset so do switch to steel. I do not make corsets myself but I think some makers use springsteel at the sides (all curvy parts) and stiffer steel at the front and back. Also use a stiffer steel as an underbusk.

You can find information about shoulderstraps in this forum if you search the older threads. Some of my corsets has shoulderstraps.

Subject: Thank you very much - steel
Well, thank you very much to Roger and to Annalai for direction.

Annalai, I am a great admirer of your figure and training success.  You are surely the world's most elegant, prima model, (I saw a couple of photographs a while ago).  I could never achieve such a waist reduction but I certainly would like to try a little over the next twelve months.  For this reason steel is certainly the way to go and thanks to you I have found a supplier here in Seattle to whom we can go.  Your link was very helpful.  It was always a wish to sew proper corsets but only Rigilene was available.

Roger, I agree now that steel is better.  Indeed, as you both suggest a true corset is one boned with steel.  As we have gained confidence with the pattern which we devised we can make a start.  I intend to have shoulder straps too as already mentioned.  I am unsure whether these should be strong enough to pull the shoulders back or just for a fashionable, decorative embellishment.  If they are to be a part of any new training then they might be best as stronger ones but unless they are puuling only backward and not down they will not do much good and be uncomfortable.  I may go for just decoration and concentrate on waist-training.  As suggested by Annalai I will look in the older threads here.

Thank you very much again to you both.  I will report my progress and show some pictures if it is allowed but now I will continue this progress in the tightlacing section.
