Subject: (How much) does the corset stress the female perineum?
Hi @ all

An interesting medical question was raised in our Hungarian Corset Forum and I wonder if you can give an answer:

For some years, awareness is being raised on the stress of / pressure on the female perineum, since the muscle(s) in this little area has to carry the weight of the inner organs. Some disease e.g. incontinence can be caused by the weakness of this muscle. Training of this muscle is more and more recommended today in Europe (while it has been self-evident in many Far Eastern cultures for a long time, see e.g. yoga exercises).

Question: To which extent does corset wearing negatively affect the (already stressed) female perineum?

Following example has been made: Imagine, a balloon full with water is being compressed in the middle, in a way like pulling the upper half in a drawer. The content of the balloon will try to get space for itself in the lower part of the balloon. (However, it has been stressed that this description is very drastic and the situation with the corset is not so heavy, but it should happen basically the same.) The point is, that the pressure on the perineum is with corset much higher than without. I wonder, how much higher? Should we be aware of this problem? Is it a problem at all? If yes, for whom: either only for tightlacer, or for all corset wearer?

I would be very happy to receive answers from medical point of view as well as from tightlacers point of view. Please remark also if I may publish your answers in our forum. Thank you!

Corsetted greetings

As far as I know, the main problem occurs when too much pressure is applied too quickly. A considerate tightlacer doesn't go for the most compression all at once. The constriction is applied progressively over time and the body has the time to adapt. That is why tightlacers take years to achieve their waist size, with no ill effects. It would be the impatient ones, or the occasional wearer who overtightens the corset for one reason or another, that are looking for trouble, and not just with the perineum.

A balloon full of water is a very compelling image, and many people tend to press their points with such (often exaggerated) imagery, but remember that half the water is on top. It doesn't all go down.

Then there are pregnant women, who have a few extra pounds of both baby and placenta to deal with. And according to many, pregnant women experience as much or more organ displacement as tightlacers.

Jen.
Self-discipline and patience are the keys to a tight waist...
The event horizon cannot be reached without some squeezing and pulling...
