Subject: Truth to be told...
Hi everyone

I was offered to move this forum to an ad-free host and considered doing that plus implementing some minor enhancements and updates.
Why haven't I done it yet then?

Frankly speaking, I wonder whether it is worth the effort. The inactivity of the majority of the members is overwhelming. Thanks to those brave few people (you know who you are) who kept posting for months and thanks to the newbies who have done so during the past few weeks. We have 300 members here and only 50 of those have been active at all so far. Barely half of those who posted at all have submitted 5 posts or more... and those who posted less are not necessarily new members.

Tells me the interest in this community is low. Too low for me to put any more work in it and try to think of something that would make it better. I will watch this some more and then decide what to do.

Here's something I've been thinking about for some time:
I am not happy with the thought that people join just to get access to the members-only areas as I think it's not fair towards those who DO keep this community alive. I suggest giving new members half a year to either write a proper introduction or another noteworthy post if they don't want to be removed/banned.

I agree. Dump the freeloaders!
I'd rather see 50 active members (all are/become friends) than 300 useless anonymous lurkers.
KEEP TIGHT!!!

The number of members has miraculously decreased to 184. That means everyone who joined before August 2005 and didn't post anything is gone.

Expect this procedure to repeat in regular intervals from now on, depending on the result of the poll.

Hi again all.

Well it is a time since I was active for many reasons. I only wanted to say I have never understood why it is so low activity in this forum nor why we have so few members if I compare it to some corsetgroups on yahoo.
Does it need more advertisment maybe on staylace and corset dk maybe even in some livejournal groups.
Well I also prefer 50 active members insted of 1000  lurkers.

I only wanted to say I hope this forum does not go away. I hope it has a future.  I will try to be a little more active myself.

I've been pretty much offline since my new job started in November - very little time to think about computers or corsets when I'm working 10-12 hour days and riding the bus for 3-4 hours on top of that!

But things are starting to settle into a routine (though my hours haven't decreased), and I am hoping to be more active in this and other online communities soon.

I would like to contribute more to this community, but while I have interest in corsetry my experience is limited. I am a fan, but neither a maker nor wearer. I had a long and delightful conversation with Kathy Jung once, in which we talked about just about everything except corsetry, but the friend we had in common has died and I'm afraid the experience won't be repeated.

I am working on arrangements for Amy Crowder to give a presentation for Black Rose in Washington DC this spring, and if that happens I'll post a summary.

Hello Nicole,

I can completely understand that you are underwhelmed by how things worked out here regarding participation. On the other hand, let's face reality: Most communities, be it Livejournal based ones, Yahoo-groups, web forums or usenet based newsgroups have a vast discrepancy between the size of their member-/readership and the number of people who actually post things. This applies even more to communities who are perceived to have some sort of sexual content. Considering the widespread idea that a corset is strictly naughty bedroom wear this probably will apply here as well to some degree.

When I joined this community I certainly expected to post more. And then I realized that I don't really know what people here would like to see posted and whether the things I could possibly contribute would be of any use to anybody. So the interesting question to ask is: What do the people joining this community expect from it? What do they want to see here? Unless we have a really good idea about that it will be hard to provide enticing content.
I don't know if it is technically feasible, but it would probably a good idea to make sure that new members *have* to post an introduction including why they want to join and what do they want to see here. This would give those people who are willing and able to provide content a better idea about what people expect.

I would be considered mainly a "lurker" but I have posted a couple of times.  I have really learned a lot from the experienced tight lacers here and appreciate the open honest approch of communication.  I just don't have as much of value to offer- wish I did!  I will try to post a little more frequently though- please don't get discouraged, the site is wonderful, insightlful, educational and fun!  Don't forget too, the move from the other site may have confused some members- and people generally don't like change (don't ask me why) I like it here.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for your input, it's really amusing to see the wrong people apologising for not contributing "enough".
To everybody who posted a reply to this: It's not YOU I'm criticizing, as you contrivute whenever you feel you have something to say AND the time for it.

It's those people who sign up, can be seen on the "Users online" list on a regular base but NEVER even think of writing anything, not even an introduction message who make me feel upset. It's just not fair towards the regular posters. They are not here to keep the masses entertained. That's not the idea behind a community.

Markus: If you're not sure whether something is okay to post or not you can always shoot either Roger or me a message... of course this applies to all other members as well ;-).
Your idea sounds good but I have yet to figure out how to do it... basically I'd have to combine the "group" and "member status" feature in a way that lurkers can only access the "Newbie lounge" in the beginning in order to post a new topic and only then have full access to the rest of the forums.

I often feel that many of the lurkers are out to find pictures.  All over my pictures will start showing with my name on them because I have seen issues with people talking pictures off the net and claiming them as their own.

KEEP THIS GROUP ALIVE!

I don't have a problem with lurkers. So people don't contribute.... Some people are quiet. Some aren't.

I try to avoid posting to groups unless I have something to say that hasn't already been said. I have left groups because of too much off-topic talk, too many "me toos" with no more added and too much repetition of something that was stated a month ago.

I am a person with way too many interests. This leads me to probably join to many groups. When all the messages come to one box, I can read them as I please, when I please (usually a week or so after the messages were posted). By this time, I usually have little to add.

This particular group, no longer goes directly to my email box (haven't  had time to figure out if I can) so I check it seldom, but enjoy what I do read.

I hope I a

I confess I am one of those quiet lurkers.

Mostly I can´t add anything to all those experienced tightlacers
 here.I´m still a shy,clumsy newbie to this.
 Before I bore anybody...

But this community is great for learning and advice.

 Keep up!

I'm guilty, sorry. I've not looked at the site in ages, which is unforgivable!

I'll get more into it and contribute more in future, I promise!

be well

I feel bad too.  I check in on occasion, but due to issues with my web servers, it's taken me forever and a day to find ya'll again.  I don't post more, but I always enjoy it here.
