Subject: To those who wear corset under normal clothes...
Hello all

This is a question I always think about, but recently I've had some new lights about it. I usually wear my corsets at home and am very willingly to get out with them, BUT I have a major problem with it: when I put a top over the corset, the laces (in the place where I made the knot, usually the waist) made a big ugly bump (a volume) on my back. I don't know if other corseted woman have this issue, but I would like to know how I could solve it. (normally I have to go out in a large T-shirt if I want to wear a corset)

Some details about my normal clothing: I wear almost exclusively low-waisted pants and skirts (i.e., the "waist band" is actually a "hip band"); I think this is related to the problem. Do pants and skirts with higher waist bands "smash" lacing in the back, so they don't make the ugly volume?

And in this case: how to hide this volume under a dress? I am planning to take in the waist of some of my dresses to use the corset under them, but can not solve the volume issue.

Also, as everyone knows, Brazil is a very hot country, then most of my clothes are very light. Maybe (and please be sincere with me) I'll have to renew my wardrobe if I intend to get out with corset, and purchase some pieces in thicker fabrics so the corset don't show through and the bump in back is minimized?

Please tell me what you think. My english is not in a good mood today, so maybe I have not explained it well.

Julia

Julia,

I do not know how much help my post will be.  I have a question.  What kind of “Lacing” do you use?  Maybe your laces are too “thick” or “fat”?  I use a nylon Polyester blend I think.  They are really thin and flat.  I tie my laces in five different places.  I can wear thin fabrics, and you cannot see my corset or laces through my clothing.  If you ran your hand down my back you could feel the laces, and corset.

When I tie my laces, I pull all the extra laces down tightly and sort of tuck them up and under the bottom edge of my corset.  I kind of run the extra along the bottom edge of my corset too.  I also do not tie my laces in  knots; rather I tie them in a bows.  I also have found for myself, wearing a dress slip under & over my corset work the best for me.  I do not wear my corset when I wear my "Hippo Hugger" jeans.  I loose much needed flexibility when I wear the two together.

I hope I have helped.  If not, good luckÂ…  Lastly, I have read that Amy from wasp creation makes “summer corsets”.  They are as strong, and durable.  They are also more light weight and “breathable” as they are only made with one layer.  I would like to get one for this next summer...  I hope I can...  Then again, maybe Gray wolf could make a summer corset too?

Hi, Amanda

Actually my laces are quite flat and I also tie them in bows (did not know the name in english!)

I'll try to attach some pictures. If they don't show, please see them in my personal gallery. The laces of both corsets are more or less equal; in the black corset pic, I marked the volume that bothers me. I can not find my camera right now, but I'll try to take some pics with normal clothes on to show my point.

All I can say is that the bows (knot) is quite perceptible through my normal clothes (which are mostly adjusted to the body, but not tight)

What is a dress slip?

I actually pull them into my corset. I attach a second piece of string through the middle part (where the lacing pulls on a corset). This forms a loop, once I'm done with lacing, I put it through the loop and pull it through the corset. That way you can easily put a flat knot in the lacing which doesn't show at all

(hope I make sense)

Hi, GrayWolf

I got the general idea. You put the string vertically? how do you un-do the laces afterwise, since they'll be "inside" the corset? (or maybe I did not understand well?)

No, you understood perfectly ;)

Getting them out from underneath the corset can be a bit of a pain in the back indeed.. but with a mirror and chopsticks the trick is easily done ;)

I pull the laces straight down after tying off in a sinple bow, then tuck the excess into the bottom of my corset.
However, I hate hip huggers of any kind, all my slacks and skirts have a proper waistband, which is at the waist.
I am not 16 years old and this new, bellybutton showing style is not for me.
For me, the small, nearly invisble knot is just above the waistband or belt.
However, I do not mind if someone sees i'm laced, quite the opposite,, in fact!

Hi, Melanie

The problem is I have a very high waist and a very flat tummy; when my waistband lies on my waist (which happens very rarely on off-the-rack clothes) it seems like I'm wearing a nappy underneath. My self-esteem improved a lot when low waist mode started! (and my age *still* permits me to wear this kind of clothes)

I still haven't got a chance to wear my corset outside since I did the question for a siple reason: summer arrived with temperatures up to 40° Celsius, so anything heavier than a bikini is a tremendous suffering (and of course, one can't wear a bikini all sady... *sigh*).

Well, I love heat, I can wear corsets at 40°C, and I do. Sure, I do enjoy the opportunity to wear a corset and not much else outside...
