Subject: Too many forums?
Hello

I personally think there are too many categories and forums here.
They are all well intended of course but it dilutes the traffic and it is simply too tedious to read each one. From experience I can tell that the result is usually dead forums.

Perhaps consolidating all the different sub forums into one or maybe two could be a good idea?

What do fellow members think?

Regards
Ben

hi,
Pearhaps your wright only future will said;
however on my own and personnal mind i like the sub forums idea; i suppose it was because i'm french and this organisation was pure and clear for me who got a primite english luguage!!
i used to really would like to be on other forums and i've few tries in the past, but each time it was outside my competence, i can't follow the combined discussion of all people.
A french of mine used to try a forum in french luguage but it seams french luguage ones don't want to works they quickly disapears due to low trafic.
sure you got good attentions for the college; be sure it' s the same on my side ! so please consider the international part.

There are a lot of forum parts yes.. but they all point out what they're about. I'm okay with whatever decision is made (or not) from this

Hey Ben,

that's an interesting idea and I'm looking forward to the result of the poll.
However, I have to point out that it is possible to see only the new messages that have been posted since the previous login. The link is in the horizontal navigation bar at the top.

Hi Nicole,

Hard to tell but what I said is from experience with other forums. I doubt that many will even see this poll because of the exact problem.

Yep, you can see new messages but I am already havng trouble to remember where I posted last and what.

Thanks for responding though!

Regards
Ben

Hello Ben,

you can easily see where you posted what by clicking on your nick in a post to go to your profile (clicking on "Profile" in the top navbar only edits it) and then clicking "Find all posts by..." in the right column of your profile.

As I said, your suggestions are greatly appreciated and will be considered. However, as it's currently 50/50 I will most likely leave everything the way it is for now but edit the topic so it's a general announcement and everybody is aware of your poll.

Hi,

I like it just like it is. I also hope more people would join and write here insted of the yahoogroups and livejournals. To find something posted for some weeks ago in a livejournal is not easy it is like a newspaper they get old. Here it is easy to go back even after several month and read all the messages. I am a member of other messageboards and they work just fine and are not dead at all. I prefer this insted of all the different yahoo groups. I hope this will also get going a little better and not be so quiet.

Yes, I am also agree to keep it as it is now. The structure in this forum is very clear, really excellent so browsing is no problem at all for me. There is nothing missing in this forum , all topics about corsets en corseting are visible here. More important is the question how to get the "Lurkers" active?

Hi

I like the forum "as is". It's easier to keep track of the messages I have not read yet; more than that, one don't need to ask the same question one thousand times, as is the case on Yahoo! groups, because here the person can easily find if that question was asked before.
I admit, though, that for people who prefer to receive messages on their mail-box this forum is worse than Yahoo! groups. I like this one only because I prefer reading my messages online.

My 2 cents.

Hi all!

Thanks for your suggestions, I chose this forum style for all the reasons you mentioned. Only time can tell whether that was a good idea, I think.

Julia, I will try to get rid of the problem with the emails, that issue has been mentioned earlier. There doesn't seem to be a RSS feed creator for PhpBB2 or PgpBB2 Plus yet but I'm positiver someone will make a mod soon.

Hi Everybody:

Just a quick comment from a newbie who has been on the Yahoo board before - I do believe there are way to many categories here and this discourages people from joining and posting.

A forum thrives when there is a lively discussion - and a lively discussion attracts even more comments. But the opposite is true, too. If everything is scattered over too many sub-categories, then it becomes to cumbersome to browse and participate and each individual forum looks more or less dead.

I love corsets, but I think you really need to be quite a devotee to actually click your way through a total of 32 (!) forums. Go ahead, count them...

I appreciate the effort that has been put into this forum and I think the underlying software is way better than what was available at Yahoo. And having multiple forums is also not bad in general - but there are way too many here.

Why not take the seven main categories (Administration, General Chat, etc) and merge each of the corresponding sub-forums. I mean, for example, is there really a need to split the corset maker reviews by geographical region? There are currently only 4 topics spread over 3 forums! And the same goes for the Events...

Just my opinion...

Your idea sounds good, I will probably merge a few of the boards, (esp. the review boards) but not all of them. Give me some time to re-organize.

Hi everyone!

As you can see I have finally done some major board merging to decrease the number of boards from 32 to now 12. All the subforums and boards with only one or even zero posts are gone now and won't return unless I see there's more interest in them (Male Corsetry and Transgemder Chat are some of those that had to go).
